Ok, Spotify you can have the album now…

On May 8th, Radiohead released their latest album titled A Moon Shaped Pool, on pretty much every other streaming platform except for Spotify.

It’s widely known that Radiohead’s lead Thom Yorke is against Spotify (and free streaming in general), and a big advocate for artists getting fair pay.  He famously pulled his music from Spotify back in 2013, dubbing the service ”the last desperate fart of a dying corpse.”

When explaining to The Business Insider why he removed his music from Spotify, Yorke has previously said…

”I feel like as musicians we have to fight this thing. I feel that in some ways what’s happening in the mainstream is the last gasp of the old industry. Once that does finally die, which it will, something else will happen.”

Though, the lead single from the album ‘Burn the Witch’ has been available on Spotify since its launch on May 3rd, and shortly after the song ‘Daydreaming’ followed. But, the other tracks on the album were nowhere to be seen on Spotify.

In fact, if you were a Spotify customer and you went searching for the album on launch day, you would have been faced with this…

Radiohead Give In to Spotify Battle

Well…it seem’s as though Spotify have been working on it, because reports have now pointed out that the album will be released on Spotify’s streaming service on June 17th, which is the same date as the physical album release. Their artists page on the Spotify app also confirms this with a message which reads, ”Radiohead’s latest album ‘A Moon Shaped Pool’ will be available here from 17th June. Come back then to listen.”

Is this the end of Yorke’s battle with the streaming platform?
